Edward D. Sadler Jr. Elementary

3950 West Franklin Boulevard

Sadler is a wonderful learning environment for over 500 students from the western Gastonia area, not far from Crowder's Mountain which provides us with magnificent scenery. We are a Title I school, which as you know, means we receive additional funds from the federal government for the instruction of our children. We opened in August, 2004. This spring we are concluding our second year in operation.

Our school is named in honor of Dr. Edward D. Sadler, Jr., the former superintendent of Gaston County Schools who has just retired after 11 years as superintendent and 38 years as an educator in Gaston County. I hope our school manifests Dr. Sadler's vision for education: love for every child, enrichment of students' lives and high academic standards.
Our school works hard daily to fulfill Dr. Sadler's values and our school family's vision. Our staff is dedicated to reaching every child in a fair, respectful and loving manner.

We are implementing the Positive Behavior Support system to help all our children be successful and secure at school. We also strive to develop caring, considerate citizens. We take pride in providing a safe and supportive environment where each student has the opportunity to reach his or her potential.

We have just finished our first year of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model. Grades 3 through 5 and Kindergarten through Second grade all participated in "enrichment clusters." For a 6 week period, students spent one day a week in an elective of their choosing where they could study plants, chess, Frisbee, aquariums, fashion, piñatas and many other subjects. One of our clusters even led to a marvelous school play, "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes," which you can find pictures of on our website section, "Pictures! Pictures!" We have a STRINGS program for developing violinists, too, in addition to our regular art, music and physical education classes.

We also strive for academic excellence. Our staff is our strength, with a highly qualified, professional faculty dedicated to caring for each child and increasing student learning and growth. Our teachers differentiate their instruction for each child realizing that every child has different needs. We support our students through our Exceptional Children's program and our classes for the Academically and Intellectually Gifted. We also have several tutors on staff to help students succeed in math and reading.
Students (and teachers) who come to Sadler will be part of a family that values compassion, enrichment and learning.
