The El Paso County Coliseum is the premier Hispanic entertainment venue in the Southwest. Alejandro Sanz, Thalia and Chayanne have all wowed El Paso audiences recently at the Coliseum, and the WWE chose the Coliseum as the venue for the May 2004 homecoming of superstars Eddie and Chavo Guerrero. Originally built in the 1940s, the Coliseum has just completed a major renovation. $9.5 million brought the El Paso community a state of the art heating and air conditioning system, new seating, expanded hallways, concession stands and restrooms. Promoters and entertainers enjoy comfortable dressing rooms, standard staging, lights and sound, and the easiest load-in capabilities in the area. The Coliseum property includes an 850-space parking lot, the El Paso Equestrian Center and an open-air El Paso Coliseum Pavilion. The Coliseum, managed by the El Paso Sports Commission, recently achieved $1 million in ticket sales during a six-week period from mid-April to the end of May 2004. The El Paso Sports Commission looks forward to bringing in annual events such as Disney on Ice, Fiesta de las Flores, the Shrine Circus and the Southwest International Livestock Show and Rodeo. along with a variety of local music festivals along with new events such as Border's Best BBQ, Texas-style Seafood Festival and a variety of local music festivals.
