History
The idea for the market was first hatched in May of 2013 by members of the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council. Thanks to additional support from Catholic Charities, Project Hope Spokane and Knox Presbyterian Church, along with a trio of business donors, it launched mid-season (July 17) that same year with approximately 15 vendors.
The market's first full season was in 2014. Enthusiasm on the part of the wider vendor community saw the total vendor count rise to nearly 30 during peak season; the loyalty of our patrons and their positive word of mouth helped to double total market sales.
Today, the market functions as a joint initiative of the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council and Project Hope Spokane. On account of that shared mission, our "sister" market is the West Central Marketplace. Uniquely and conveniently, our market tokens are valid at both locations.
