History: To learn of Christ, to learn to know Christ, and make Him known to the world.
On March 11, 1888 at the Methodist Quarterly Conference at Pleasant Grove, a church was organized at Wayne Station and it was called Wayne Chapel. The town of Wayne Station became Ethridge about 1904, and presumably, Wayne Chapel became Ethridge Church about that time. In 1891, the little, white frame building which stood west of the railroad at the north edge of our village was built under the leadership of Rev. James F. Tinnon. Mr. Jim Nance made the altar rail and lectern that is still in use in our church today. This building was dedicated the second Sunday in May 1892. Bishop Robert A. Young preached the dedication Sermon. Ground-breaking for the educational building was on August 20, 1961 during the pastorate of Dr. William H. Mansfield. While Charles Becher was minister in 1973-1974 the church began building a parsonage. It was completed during the pastorate of J.E. Bennett. The dedication service was held September 12, 1976 with District Superintendent Billy Craighead delivering the sermon. In June of 2004, we took a step of faith and went to a single church charge full time. In June of 2008, Brian Gilbert became our pastor. Recently we have added a new sound system, paved our parking lot, added new Sunday School classes, started new ministries, and God is not through yet. As we look forward to the future with much hope, we always remember our past.
