When we bought this land to build a house on, the lay of the land lent itself to growing a crop that would do well on marginally productive ground. As the old field lay fairly level, a choose and cut Christmas tree operation seemed a natural fit. We like to grow plants and always had a garden and flowerbeds so it wasn't much of a stretch to contemplate trees. So we put in a variety of conifers to see which would do well. The spruces, firs, and pines all grow well on the higher areas and nothing does well in the poorly drained spots. We hope to install raised furrows in the future for better microsite drainage.
