The First Assembly of God Church in Thornton is proud of it's rich heritage through it's affiliation with the Assemblies of God. Our church was birthed in an era of time when Pentecostal revival was sweeping the nation. Many churches were founded in the fires of revival during this great time. It was in just such a revival... an old fashion brush arbor meeting in the downtown area of Thornton that our church was formed in 1928. The Pentecostal message touched the hearts of many people with signs and wonders following after the Word of God. The community and surrounding area were moved by the demonstration of God's great power. Through that great revival our church came into being.

In the brush arbor revival of 1928 a local man wandered into the service. He was in a very drunken condition and he began disrupting the preaching. The evangelist stopped in the midst of his sermon and pronounced a strong word to this man. He said, "Sir, may you become sober and may you never be drunk again." The man abruptly left the brush arbor completely sober. He wandered from saloon to saloon (in those days there were a lot of saloons in Thornton) drinking and trying to get drunk. He drank for two days and remained sober. Afterward... miserable and convicted he came back to the brush arbor revival and gave his heart to Jesus Christ.

First Assembly of God still believes and operates in the same powerful anointing that it began with. Our church has been through many seasons and growth patterns. Many Christian generations have found their spiritual strength in this historical Pentecostal church. Although we are not considered a large church by our numbers we experience the wonderful presence of God in the worship of our Lord Jesus Christ.
