Mission Statement
The First Unitarian Church of San José is an open and inclusive community committed to promoting the values and principles of Unitarian Universalism in the Santa Clara Valley. As individuals and in community, we seek to deepen our understanding of Unitarian Universalist principles and to embody them in our lives, that in bold and loving ways we can become agents for spiritual growth, healing, social justice, compassion, and joy. We will live out the goals of the church through our commitments to meaningful worship, ritual and celebration, to providing opportunities for religious education, growth, service, and fun for all ages, to fostering the process of becoming a diverse and multicultural congregation, and to dedicating ourselves to service that contributes to justice in our local community and in the world.
Vision Statement
Our vision for the First Unitarian Church of San José in 2010:
A church with a vibrant congregational life that reflects a supportive, joyful, and diverse intergenerational community.
A church that offers a wide variety of opportunities for spiritual expression and personal growth through multiple worship services, not limited to Sundays, with an excellent music program, and a strong lifespan religious education program.
A church with a solid infrastructure that has effective administration, a comprehensive volunteer structure, a thoughtful visibility plan, and a program to broaden the financial base through an endowment and real estate investments.
A church that is a recognized leader in the community, Pacific Central District, and the Unitarian Universalist Association, especially in action for social justice, campus ministry, Spanish Speaking Ministries, and Small Group Ministry.
