On May 9, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa's Mother and Daughter Banquet, Peggy Powell and her sister Frances Graham announced their retirement from the church's Thrift Shop after 10 years of service in this ministry.
They will be missed by the many faithful and loyal shoppers who visit the Thrift Shop regularly. Peggy and Fran were always quick with the smile, kind with words of Christian compassion, and would go to great lengths to accommodate customers. Most likely you would get a joke or a wise crack from Fran to tickle your funny-bone before you left the shop. There was always laughter.
Not only have they been a blessing to their customers, but they have quietly bestowed acts of charity to people who have come and expressed needs. There are many stories...
Their 10 years of service has been very fruitful to the Global Missions Ministry of the United Methodist Women. It has been because of the financial success of the Thrift Shop that FUMC of Homosassa can bestow a sizable yearly pledge for Methodist ministries around the world. We will miss seeing Peggy and Fran everyday, but they are looking forward to new projects.
