The Fort Gay Public Library is a branch of the Wayne County Public Library and serves Southwestern West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky.
The library is part of the Western Counties Regional Library System. Patrons benefit from the collections of all libraries in Wayne, Cabell, Putnam, Mingo, and Lincoln Counties.
The Fort Gay Public Library provides library services to hundreds of Fort Gay Elementary students weekly.
The library offers a comfortable and friendly atmosphere in one of West Virginia's original "outpost" library buildings.
In 2003, grants and gifts from the Norfolk Southern Foundation, The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, Foundation for the Tri-State Communities, USDA for Rural Development and Kanawha River Terminals made a 942 square feet addition to the building a reality.
