About Us :
Franklin Community Library opened in September of 2002. The 19,600 square foot cooperatively managed library is located at 10055 Franklin High Road in Elk Grove. After several years of planning and collaboration, the Elk Grove Unified School District and the Sacramento Public Library Authority joined in the operation of the Library.
Franklin Community Library serves the students of Franklin High School and Toby Johnson Middle School as well as the general public. The library offers many books and special materials to enhance classroom learning, plus activities and services similar to those in other public library branches: preschool story times and programs for school age children and teens are offered; special adult programs and workshops are scheduled at various times during the year.
The library has 66 computers for public use, some of which may be reserved for use by Toby Johnson and Franklin classes during school hours. Weekdays at 3:00 when school lets out, there is quite a bit of competition for computers and for tables. There is a well used self-check out machine for the convenience of the public. The library is open more than 60 hours per week to serve both the students and the larger community and has a summer/holiday schedule of over 30 open hours.
This is the first time Sacramento Public Library has been involved in a jointly managed facility. Cooperation between school and public agencies allows Franklin Community Library to provide extended hours of service and a broader range of materials than would otherwise be possible. The cooperation of the two staffs allows us to provide much needed library service to this fast-growing area.
Franklin Library is supported by an active and enthusiastic Friends of the Library Affiliate. They work to provide programs and workshops and to promote use of the library throughout the community.
Though we work hard to maintain our regular schedule of 60+ hours per week, our open hours may be subject to change due to staffing requirements or school schedule.
