Our History
Franklin Regional Medical Center was opened in 1951 to meet the healthcare needs of Franklin County. In 1986, the hospital was purchased by Health Management Associates, Inc. (HMA) based out of Naples, Florida. HMA owns and operates 52 facilities in 14 states. Their niche is non-urban acute care hospitals which provide outstanding medical care in areas with proven demographic need. Franklin Regional underwent major renovations in 1988 &1989 and added additional services at that time.
Franklin Regional's Mission is dedicated to addressing the medical needs of its community, the people if Franklin and the surrounding counties it serves. It has grown to become an 85-bed acute care facility, and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
In 1995 &1996, Franklin Regional was named a Top 100 Hospital by HCIA/ Mercer Report. In 1999, Franklin Regional added a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department and Outpatient Area. This 8,500 square foot addition houses 8 treatment bays with two full trauma suites as well as an orthopedic procedure room and a room for the care of pediatric patients. In addition, the 3,000 feet of renovated space, houses the Cardiopulmonary Department, and additional space for the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
Our Location
Franklin County ranks as the 9th fastest growing county in North Carolina. Between the 1980 and 1990 census, Franklin County grew 21.16%, over twice the national average of 10.27% and close to twice the North Carolina state average 12.7%. Of the five counties in the Kerr-Tar region (Franklin, Person, Warren, Vance and Granville), Franklin County had the greatest increase in population. Our Qualifications
Franklin Regional Medical Center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). This means we voluntarily submit to an extensive evaluation of our compliance with JCAHO hospital standards on a continuing basis.
