Mission Statement:
Friends University exists to provide high-quality undergraduate and graduate education that incorporates liberal arts instruction and professional studies within the context of the Christian faith.
About Us:
For more than 100 years, Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, has been providing a Christian-based, liberal arts education to students of all ages and denominations. The University remains committed to its core curriculum: the arts and sciences. A broad-based education - one that truly expands the horizons and frees the mind - is our goal for every student. This is also expressed in our commitment to teaching and to the personal growth of each Friends University student. As a nondenominational Christian university, Friends University incorporates learning within the context of the Christian faith.
In recent years, Friends University has developed a unique blend of strong traditional programs and strong nontraditional undergraduate and graduate programs for busy adults.
The foundation of Friends University has been and continues to be the traditional undergraduate program. More than 1,000 students enroll in this program and take courses on a semester basis for several years. These students are actively involved in the life of the institution and live in the residence halls, provide leadership through student government, plan student events, and participate in athletic and fine arts activities.
In addition, Friends offers several nontraditional undergraduate and graduate programs that deliver programs in a unique way to adults who have other responsibilities to balance with school. Friends University was one of the first educational institutions to offer these types of programs in Kansas. Adult students in these programs meet during the evening or weekends over a specified time period to complete their coursework for an associate, bachelor's or master's degree. They are able to attend classes on a schedule that's flexible with the rest of their lives.
Friends University is a place where students truly matter. The University has used a coordinated approach to place student issues and concerns at the forefront by providing prompt and personal attention to students. Staff and faculty have devoted time to get to know students and prospective students as individuals, not numbers. Friends University listens to students' needs and concerns and responds with programs and solutions that meet those needs.
