History and Who We Serve:
On March 12, 1912 Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Scout troop in the United States. The first troop consisted of 12 girls. The current national membership is over 2.8 million. Girl Scouts are also members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
In 1917, the Toledo Girl Scout Council received the first official Girl Scout Charter inthe United States of America. This Council was merged with Defiance Council in 1967 to form Maumee Valley Girl Scout Council. In 2000, the name was changed to Girl Scouts of Maumee Valley Council, Inc.
Girl Scouts of Maumee Valley Council serves seven northwestern Ohio counties, City of Fostoria and one lower Michigan county.
Girl Scouts of Maumee Valley Council is a private, nonprofit organization chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). The Council is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of girls, volunteer women and men who reflect the varied geographic, economic and ethnic groups within the Council.
