A Tradition of Excellence
The bands at Glenelg High School, along with the auxiliary units of the marching band, have a reputation that extends far beyond its own community due to its consistent performance at a level known only to professionals. Students in this instrumental music program realize that theirs is an experience not typical of a high school music program due to the inspiration and dedication of teacher Barry P. Enzman. Under his direction, students are taught that "obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal" and that "character consists of what you do on the third and fourth try." Emphasis is placed on the fact that the process involved in reaching a goal is just as important as the goal itself.
With such motivation, it should come as no surprise that the end result on the Glenelg stage is a high level of energy and enthusiasm as well as music with richness, quality, and power. The numerous trophies, plaques, and awards lining the walls of the band room are a testament to this fact. They are the fruits of a long-standing tradition that has existed for over 30 years and still continues today.
