History
Grace Community Church began in the summer of 1987 with the vision to reach Great Bend for Jesus Christ. A small group gathered to pray and worship God. The church has steadily grown and moved and changed — from a group of 15 to about 400. Through each step, the people of Grace have sought to bless others and have, in turn, been blessed. Along the way, Lambsgate Christian Preschool, Grace Academy (Now independent as CKCA) and other ministries found their beginnings.
Today, the church continues to grow and reach out through great activities and ministries for children, youth, singles, families and seniors. The original desire to reach Great Bend has expanded to “Central Kansas.” We still desire to bless others and earnestly seek God’s blessing.
We belong to the Evangelical Free Church of America denomination. The “Free Church” is an association of local churches throughout every region of the United States. There are over 100 E. Free churches in the Kansas-Nebraska district. The name “evangelical” simply means “good news.” The “good news” is that Jesus Christ has opened the way for man to know God and experience the gift of eternal life. The name “free” was adopted to show that a local church is free to govern its own affairs under Christ as its true head.
