History:
Grace Community Church began the first Sunday in February the year 1994 out of a Home Bible Study.
Dennis Page, a member of the home group began to be burdened of the Lord for a church in the South Effingham area. A church that would have a relevant and reverant worship with sound biblical teaching each week.
Dennis Page shared the burden with Wesley Corbitt, a member of the home group, and challenged Wesley and asked if he had ever received a call to preach. Wesley shared that after college he had felt a burden for the pastoral ministry but had dismissed it as personal pressure based on family tradition. These two men, along with their wives, prayed fervently for several months seeking God's will and direction.
During this time of prayer and seeking God for direction, Wesley and his wife Pam, responded to the call he had received years earlier.
The burden was shared sometime in the fall of 1993 with two other couples. They were Ron and Nancy Roberts and Jim and P. J Sipes. After continued prayer, the four families along with a couple of other families met at Ebenezer Retreat Center for a weekend of prayer and envisioning what God would have them do. Out of this weekend the vision took root. A name was selected--Grace Community Church; Elders were appointed, and the purpose was codified. The weekend ended Sunday morning with our first official service of worship. There were approximately 30 in attendance. The men of Grace began to meet early each Monday morning for prayer.
In March of 1994 Grace moved its services to the clubhouse of Silverwood. During March and April the fellowship grew to approximately 50 people.
In May of 1994 Grace purchased a mobile unit and relocated to rented property on the corner of Goshen Road and Highway 21 in Rincon. This location was, in the church's heart and mind, a blessing from the Lord.
By July of 1994 Worship attendance was exceeding 75 people, and the Church began offering Sunday School and various other ministries. The Church attendance and ministry continues to grow by the grace of God.
Grace relocated again for the last time on October 17, 1999 on 40 acres of land located at 1094 Goshen Road. If Grace will continue to be a people of prayer, and be faithful to teaching sound words from Scripture, there is no limit to what God will accomplish for His eternal glory through us.
