The Groveport Police Department consists of an authorized strength of 20 full time sworn officers, three sworn reserve officers, and one full time civilian employee. The full time staff is organized into the following bureaus. The Administrative Bureau consists of the Chief of Police, the Administrative Lieutenant, and a civilian Administrative Assistant. The patrol division includes the Patrol Lieutenant, four Sergeants and an authorized strength of 11 patrol officers. The Detective Bureau consists of two investigators. This manning allows for one supervisor and at least two patrol officers on duty at most times.
The department’s patrol vehicle fleet is comprised of 10 marked cruisers fully equipped with mobile data computers and cruiser cameras. There are also four unmarked vehicles that are used by the Detective and Administrative Bureaus. Most of the patrol officers are also bike patrol qualified; in 2003 these officers rode 860 hours of patrol, logging 2724 miles on the department’s fleet of eight bicycles. The department contracts with the Franklin County Ohio Sheriff’s Office for dispatching and jail services.
