Heritage Baptist Church is an independent Baptist church in fellowship with the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches and the Michigan Association of Regular Baptist Churches . The church began in 1976 as Heritage Baptist Fellowship, a church planting ministry of Hiawatha Baptist Missions, now Continental Baptist Missions, with Rev. Jim Van Liere as missionary pastor. Property was purchased on U.S. 31 in 1978 and in the fall construction began on our present building under the direction of Donald Chilson, a missionary builder with Hiawatha Baptist Missions. The new building was finished in the spring of 1979 and dedicated on the 4th of August. On October 18, 1983 a Recognition Council formally recognized the fellowship as a duly organized and constituted New Testament Baptist Church, and on May 31, 1986 the church graduated from mission status. Work began September 23, 2006 on an addition to the church.
