Historic Monticello Ghost Tours was created in October 2001 and is owned and operated by professional ghost hunters the Big Bend Ghost Trackers.
Beginning in October 2001 as a fund raiser for the Jefferson county Monticello chamber of commerce, the tours operate all year long. However, each October the ghost tours in Florida are dedicated to the chamber of commerce for community improvement and receive 50% of all October tours proceeds. Historic Monticello ghost tours also at various tour dates donate tour proceeds throughout the year for needy and charitable organizations. The locations are 14 of the most haunted locations in downtown historic Monticello, Florida "the south's most haunted small town". Milestones include: 2003 ABC news named Monticello, Florida as the "south's most haunted small town". In July 2012, historic Monticello ghost tours was named the # 1 ghost tour in north Florida and 3rd in the southeast United States. Some noted tour patrons include: actor Burt Reynolds, actor Miguel Gutierrez, NFL Colt's football player Pat McAfee. The John Denham House Bed and Breakfast is on the tour; it was named the 2nd most haunted bed and breakfast in the United States by USA today.
Jefferson County (Monticello, FL) was founded in January 1827. In August of that same year Monticello was named the county seat. It has a population of 2500 and is located twenty three miles east of Florida's capital city, Tallahassee, and situated on Highway 19 N / Highway 90 E, just off interstate 10 at exit 225.
