Housing for the Homeless Coalition is a group of volunteers from local churches and area businesses that are committed to housing homeless families for the winter months. We are working with families and students that currently can not get housing in Midland County if they suddenly become homeless. We have an emergency over night shelter and 6 units for housing families on a temporary basis.
We are also offering a day center for the homeless in the same location as the emergency shelter which means we can offer shelter 24 hours a day. A day center currently does not exist in Midland County. The day center is equiped with phones, computers, internet access and councelors from several local agencies who will be available to assist our guests to become housed employed and self sufficient. We are offering a hand up, not a hand out. Each of our guests will work with the local agency counselors to develope a plan specifically for them to imoprove their current situation. Each guest will be monitored to see that they are working on their individual plan.
This Program requires volunteers and lots of them. We need people who are willing to reach out and do just a little to help. Our volunteer opportunities can be as small as 4 hours one time. Those 4 hours can make make the difference between safty and security, and living in a car to a homeless family.
