About Us:

In November 1912, a group of former (Presbyterian native Alaskan high school) graduates met to worship God in the native land of the Tlingit, located in South East Alaska on the island of Kupreanof. This began the prayer moments and discussion of organizing a Presbyterian mission church in Kake. Our 100 year celebration event on November of 2012 involved hosting the member churches of the Presbytery of Alaska. Our preparation and time of celebration allowed us to reflect on our congregations beginning, reminded us of our journey of faith, our mission, and began the reflection on our future as a body of Christ in our island community. Kake Memorial Presbyterian Church notes a membership of 18, and a Sunday worshiping body of 35-40 people. Our church opens its doors to all. Our Tlingit Elders would state our Kake Memorial Presbyterian family has spread a blanket to comfort our community in times of sadness, provided care in times of need, and celebrated together our joys.

Our church life revolves around traditional church events. We have weekly Sunday worship which includes moments for children’s church. Members find weekly Bible studies, daily morning devotional, and fellowship moments as part of their church life. We are into our seventh year of providing a Friday “soup kitchen” called “The Peace of Kake Café.” Our Café welcomes all to a moment of a meal, devotional, prayer and fellowship for the community of Kake. We host the Good News Club every Tuesdays to reaching out to young children to teach them the Word of God, and also "Youth Cafe" to the teenagers and young adults. 

We truly believe in God who gave us the mission to spread the good news to our community and beyond just as Acts 1:8 says “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” All those programs our church offering to our community are solely serving for one purpose of witnessing Jesus Christ. We also send a missionary, who is also an elder of our church, to twice a year for her short mission trips to Russia. She visits 3-4 orphanages and holds Bible camps to share the good news to the children. Our church is truly blessed by these opportunities that God has provided us the mission to our community and beyond.
