History
The Kalida Branch Library opened on April 8, 1973, with a reception sponsored by the Kalida Fire Ladies with 163 people attending.
The Kalida Village Council agreed to the use of a room in the City Building along with tables, chairs, and desks. The Kalida Lions Club donated money and time to buy and install the original shelving in the City Building. Furniture, shelving, computers, books, periodicals and other equipment and staff are now provided by funding from the Putnam County District Library operating budget.
Over the years, hours have been increased as have the types of materials offered. Some of the latest advances are the on-line computer catalog and Internet service. In 1973, the total yearly circulation was 2,393. In 1998, the total circulation topped 13,000 items.
Businesses and civic organizations have been very generous to the Kalida Branch Library, especially for the annual Summer Reading Club and programs. The staff are very appreciative of this support.
