About Us:

The Kanabec County Historical Society was originally organized in 1931, The Society reorganized in 1968 and gained substantial public interest and support. The Society opened its first museum in the basement of the old Fire Hall in 1972.

The current Kanabec History Center opened to the public in 1978. Operated by the Kanabec County Historical Society, the Center is located on 37 acres bordering the Snake River on the west side of Mora, MN . The land was generously donated by the McVay family. The Kanabec County Historical Society is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and as such all donations are tax deductible. The Kanabec History Center is funded mainly through memberships and private donations.

The main facility contains an exhibition hall, climate controlled storage areas, reference library, conference room/art gallery, gift shop and office space. The Coin School, constructed in 1898, now serves as the education building for programs such as TIMELINE, an elementary education program which serves all children of Kanabec County.
