What is a Barter Fair? A Barter Fair is an event for all Farmers, Vendors, Crafters, and anyone who has something to trade or barter to get together and trade their surplus. There is no fee for vending and the only rule is you can't sell or trade hot or prepared food or drink. There will be food vending however space is limited and already full. These food vendors will be open to trade. Sales are allowed but the primary focus is trade and barter. It feels good to barter the things you have for the things you need right before winter rolls around. Vendors must pay the entry fee for the festival however kids under 12 are free.
In Alaska it would not be the same if we did not throw a bluegrass festival in the mix for an entire weekend of entertainment for the whole family. All of Saturday morning is kid time with special bands and shows geared for the kid in all of us. Look out though cuz the stage will get a little racy in the evenings and the party goes well into the early morning. There will be a "Family" camping area for those who want a quiet time and "Pick & Strum" camping area dedicated to those who want to play acoustic music around the fire. Lastly The "General" camping area where most of the crowd will be, there is no curfew and no rules other than the ones on the poster.
The festival is located on 70 acres of private property with maintained road access right to the gate. There is plenty of space to spread out camping and the trail on the property leads right up to the Big Su River where you can take a dip, Enjoy views of Denali, or just play on the River bank.
