About:
Since the 19th Century, Kewanee has had a local organization devoted to helping the community grow, and improving the quality of life here.
The Kewanee Chamber of Commerce, originally named the Business Men’s Club, was formed in 1888 as an action association designed to meet both the business and community needs of the area. It is a voluntary organization consisting of small and large businesses, professionals and interested individuals who join together to advance the interest of the community.
Funds for the operation of the organization come from membership dues and Chambersponsored events.
The Chamber also serves as a legislative representative, an information bureau and a business resource tool. From working to boost the local economy, to improving the quality of life through sponsoring special events, the Chamber makes a difference in the community.
As an information resource, the Chamber office fields a variety of requests. From visitors asking for information about special events or needing assistance in doing genealogical research to businesses considering relocating to the Kewanee area, the Chamber provides up-to-date census, economic and retail information when needed.
As a business agent, the Chamber works to recruit business enterprises and industries to the area to help create more job opportunities.
In addition, they are consistently involved with existing businesses as a public relations and problem solving agent. The office conducts surveys, and has access to market studies as well as sales analysis, labor market statistics and more.
The Chamber is also well known for planning, implementing and promoting a wide variety of events.
These include retail promotions, holiday celebrations, Outstanding Citizen awards, the Fourth of July celebration, and Labor Day weekend festivities including the Hog Day Stampede 4-mile run and the Hog Festival Parade.
