The school motto, "Together We Grow" at Kings Park, reflects the enthusiastic commitment to lifelong learning shared by students and staff members. Reading, writing, and mathematics serve as the foundation of the primary school program.
Beginning in kindergarten, children receive direct instruction in three cueing systems: meaning, language structure (grammar), and phonics to support growth in reading and writing skills. Throughout the primary day, varied, carefully paced lessons and activities incorporate the use of manipulatives to foster concept development and provide avenues for exploration, peer interaction, and active hands-on learning. An automated library and multimedia access throughout the school expand opportunities for research.
Varied integrated special education service options enable staff members to focus on individual student needs. Additional support is provided through gifted and talented, English for speakers of other languages, and preschool special education programs.
Primary students are encouraged to assume a variety of leadership positions, including Student Hosts, Cub Council, Cub Patrols, TV station KPOV (Kids' Point of View) stars, and employees of Kings Park's Wee Deliver postal system.
A child's primary school experience is enriched through frequent family events and parent workshops. An active PTA provides strong support for the instructional program, including classroom volunteers, cultural arts programs, and field trips.
