Kirkwood School is located approximately 6 miles south of the City of Corning in a small rural area.The school was first established in 1933. In 1997 a new facility was built with two classrooms, a multipurpose room, bathrooms, and office. In 2008 two new modular classrooms were brought in. A new full size gymnasium and kitchen were built in 2011. In 2012-13 the old multipurpose room was turned into a classroom and the old kitchen into an office. Kirkwood School serves students in TK-8 grades in 5 classrooms.

Kirkwood School believes that each child is a unique person, with unique needs, and the purpose of the educational system of this state is to enable each child to develop all of his or her own potential as a fully contributing citizen. The staff and community work together to provide a strong foundation for learning so that all students will become responsible and productive members of our society.
