About Us:
The Kiwanis Club of Leesburg Virginia has been proudly serving Loudoun County since March, 1957. Founded by local business leaders, our membership now boasts business people, professionals, government workers, and retirees.
The club is best known for the annual Halloween parade that it sponsors in Leesburg. Every Halloween since 1957 children of all ages watch police, fire, and rescue units, high school marching bands, floats, groups, and politicians parade down King Street and pass out candy. In recent years, over 100 participating units delight an estimated 10-15,000 people with floats, marching bands, grops of all types, and, of course, candy!
We sponsor Key Clubs in both Leesburg high schools. Students run these service leadership programs under faculty supervision, learning community service by sponsoring projects that benefit their school and the community at large and receiving valuable leadership training and experience. The Kiwanis club takes a group of them to Richmond each year while the legislature is in session to witness state government in action. Students typically meet with the governor or lieutenant governor, assistant attorney general, and both state senators and delegates who represent their families.
Community service is a big part of Kiwanis we truly serve the children of the world, first and foremost in Loudoun County. In our decades of service we have supported many different organizations. In recent years the club locally supports InterFaith Relief, the Holiday Coalition, INOVA Loudoun Hospital's Birthing Inn, and youth projects. Internationally the club contributes to the Kiwanis International Foundation service project to eradicate iodine deficiency disorder (IDD), the leading preventable cause of mental retardation in children around the world, and other children oriented projects.
