About Us

The Kiwanis Club of Sandusky is one of the most active service clubs in Erie County. Chartered in 1919, the Kiwanis Club maintains an active membership of approximately 75 men and women.

Purposes include the promotion of human and spiritual values, good citizenship, fellowship, and altruistic service through voluntary action. Membership is by invitation and is open to active or retired business and professional men and women who reside, conduct their business, or have other community interests in the area of the club. A major emphasis locally is its commitment to young children.

That is why the Kiwanis Club of Sandusky supports over 35 local organizations and charities with both financial and volunteer support. Young Children Priority One committee, for instance, conducts the Sandusky area's Reading Is Fundamental Program (RIF), supports Child Assault Prevention, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Montessori Scholarship Program, YMCA, Safe Harbour Domestic Violence Shelter, Bay Area Friends of Abused Children, and has purchased Pediatric Trauma Boards for both the Perkins and Sandusky Fire Departments. Community Services Projects include Highway Cleanup, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Stein Hospice, Volunteer of America, VIA Club and more.

The Human and Spiritual Value committee publishes the Church Directory that is distributed throughout the Erie County area.

International Service Project (IDD) - IDD is a disorder caused by the lack of Iodine in the food supply of certain regions around the world. IDD effects children causing birth defects and mental retardation. In cooperation with UNICEF, Kiwanis International is committed to eliminating this disorder world wide in the near future. In just the past 3 years, the Kiwanis Club of Sandusky, alone, have given over $18,000 and significantly impacted the lives of over 400,000 children around the world. Kiwnais International has collected to date over $45 million in it's fight to wipe Iodine Deficiency world wide. IDD was featured in Hugh Downes farewell episode of ABC's 20/20.
