Parents Matter in Middle School
You make a huge difference in how successful your child will be in middle school! Here are some tips on how to be involved:
• Take the time to become familiar with your child’s teachers - make contact early in the year, let the teachers know how your child learns best
• Value academic success – talk with your child about goals and realistic expectations
• Use Schoology - know what your child is working on at school/homework, communicate with teachers, stay current with every classroom
• Corrective Feedback – make sure to help your child implement teacher feedback to improve his/her work
• Attend school events whenever possible. It is a time to speak informally with your child’s teacher.
• Don’t take a side – your child needs to know you will support school, but you will advocate for your child if you feel help is necessary
• Encourage your child to resolve conflicts on his/her own – let them work their way out of difficult situations.
Together, we can create a lifelong love of learning for every middle school student.
