The mission of LMS is to give each student every opportunity to make the most of themselves.

History:

Landrum Junior High School (now Landrum Middle School) opened its doors in August of 1994. During the 1960's, 70's, and 80's the seventh and eighth grades were part of Landrum High School. The administration consisted of one principal and two assistant principals. The district vision has always been one of student-centered education; and the early 1990's, parents, faculty and district administration realized the 7th - 12th grade structure was no longer appropriate.

In 1993, one of the assistant principals left the school and instead of filling the position, the district office hired a full-time administrator to preside over the seventh and eighth grades. Mrs. Nita High, therefore, became the first principal of Landrum Junior High School.

In 1996, the front office and two science labs were completed. Since the additions, the external appearance of Landrum Junior High School has remained much the same. A closer look inside, however, will reveal a new administration and a relatively new faculty, as 50% have joined the staff in the past three years. One thing remains the same, however, and that is a commitment to excellence in education. Landrum Junior High School students continue to score well on standardized tests.

In 1997-98 Landrum Junior High School went through its first peer review with Southern Association of Colleges. At that time the staff envisioned:

A school with a safe and positive environment and where students respect cultural diversity;

A school that provides the students with the skills necessary to compete in a changing world; and

A school in which opportunities exist for all students to achieve success.

In 2002-2003, Landrum Junior High School shares its vision of five years ago. However, we have revised it to appear in this manner.

We envision...a nurturing, yet challenging, school where students develop positive self-concepts that enable them to reach their potentials and become productive citizens.

Our future looks bright. In the fall of 2002, District One of Spartanburg County passed a bond referendum to build new high schools.

In the summer of 2006, Landrum Junior High School moved into the old Landrum High School building and officially changed its name to Landrum Middle School. With all the exciting new changes, Crystal McSwain was named as the new principal.

Landrum Middle School is a student-centered school that will strive for student success today and throughout the 21st century.
