LWVG Nonpartisan Policy:-
- In accordance with the bylaws of the LWVUS the LWVG shall not support or oppose any political party or candidate. This includes any candidate running for partisan office without party affiliation.
- "Sensitive" members of the LWVG board, during their term of office, shall not engage in partisan political activity. "Sensitive" board positions are: President (or members of Steering Committee), Advocacy Vice President, Voters Services Vice President or any other decided on by the Board. The Board shall review, on a case-by-case basis, political involvement of other Board members.
- Board members shall not speak publicly, circulate or sign petitions in opposition to the League's position on issues. Any questions regarding a conflict of interest or other issues arising under Board Policies and Procedures should be brought to the attention of the President or the Steering Committee as promptly as possible for review on a case-by-case basis.
- A Board member shall resign from the Board immediately following the Board's decision that her/his activity requires resignation:
- resigning Board member shall retain the LWVG membership'
- the Board shall decide upon the appropriate amount of time before a members is again eligible to serve on the Board and so shall advise the member at the time of resignation
- the resignation of the Board member shall be made public, accompanied by an explanation of the LWVG Board Policies and Procedures. If the resignation is due to a member's becoming a candidate for elective partisan office, the announcement of the resignation should avoid the appearance of endorsing the candidacy of the member.
- Political activities of a spouse or relative of a Board member shall be considered as separate and distinct from the activities of the Board member.
- Board members may serve on the Representative Town Meeting and on boards and commissions of the Town, provided that the membership is by appointment.
- not eligible are those Board members who are serving in "sensitive positions"
- the Board may recommend qualified members to serve on Town boards and commissions provided that such membership is by appointment
- If a coalition of which the League is a member decides to support or oppose a candidate, the League Board shall issue a statement disassociating itself from that aspect of coalition work.
- The LWVG will evaluate requests for sponsorships or partnerships of events and/or activities vis-à-vis our mission and local positions.
