Our Name:
Leavitt's Mill Free Health Center was named for an historic grist/saw mill built in Buxton in the late 18th century by Joseph Leavitt...and like the grist mills of old, was a community effort, built by volunteers for the good of the areas' uninsured residents.
Our Mission:
To improve the health of the community by providing FREE healthcare services to persons who have no insurance or inadequate insurance and by sponsoring health promotion activities for the entire community.
Our Vision:
We believe that professional, respectful, and appropriate healthcare should be equally available to all.
Our Philosophy:
Education, teaching, learning, practical experience, all play a very important role at LMFHC. It is through appropriate teaching that we can help our patients achieve wellness. It is through providing a clinical setting for future health care providers that we may ensure well trained, caring professionals. We also believe that as a teaching and learning center we can effect some change in the healthcare system and work towards promoting healthcare reform.
Care at LMFHC is based on the premise that the patient is the center of the health care team, and as such is encouraged to make informed decisions about care, and about healthy lifestyles. Using a "whole person" approach, your provider will work with you to help you overcome illness and injury, and work towards an increased state of wellness in your life. We will encourage a variety of ideas and will involve a number of disciplines, with a focus on prevention. In the long run, we expect to help you not only improve your health, but to save time and money.
Our primary care services are offered Free of charge to any uninsured person or persons and are supported entirely by donations of time, services and dollars.
