By focusing on the Learning, Climate, and Safety, the Ledyard Center School faculty works to provide an instructional program that maximizes student achievement and to create a safe and respectful environment.

Ledyard Center is the oldest school building in the town, opening its doors to students in 1950. Currently this K-6 school has an enrollment of 475 students and is the largest of the four elementary schools. Located in the center of Ledyard, our school offers a diverse population and a tradition of including families in an enjoyable educational experience while maintaining high standards.

All classrooms incorporate social skills development within academic instruction using Responsive Classroom strategies. Starting their day with a morning meeting, our students can expect to be greeted by staff and classmates as an example of how they practice respecting themselves, respecting one another and respecting our school.

Parents and teachers work together in an active PTO. Each year the PTO sets a big goal project as well as annual commitments for classroom cultural arts, field trips, an author visit and teacher requests. Family members are welcome to volunteer for classroom support, special events and projects, and school celebrations.

School and classroom newsletters are sent home monthly to inform Ledyard Center families and friends about instructional initiatives, grade level and schoolwide events, as well as reminders. Parent/teacher conferences are held after the first reporting period in November and can also be scheduled throughout the year to address questions/concerns.

During the school day, all visitors report to the office to sign in and wear a visitor badge. Staff members and guest teachers also wear identification. For more information about the teaching and learning at Ledyard Center School, call the school office and come for a visit.
