The streets of Lenox will be filled with holiday carolers December 10, 2011 for the first Lenox Caroling Festival. Choirs and choral groups from throughout the Northeast are being invited to participate in the competition that will be the highlight of a gala weekend of traditional holiday activities.
"The Caroling Festival will feature fun family activities that evoke the Gilded Age in Lenox," stated Richard W. Wise, Lenox Caroling Festival organizer. "It will be the perfect weekend for everyone to kick-off the holiday season."
The caroling competition will be held on Saturday between 10 am and 4 pm and each group will perform for 15 minutes at one of several sites throughout Historic Lenox Village. Winners will be determined by a combination of popular vote and a panel of professional judges led by festival director, Dr. Andrea Goodman. An awards reception will be held at 6 pm at the Shakespeare & Company's Bernstein Theatre and be followed by a performance of David Sedaris' "The Santaland Diaries" at 7:30 pm.
On Sunday, a gingerbread contest featuring large scale succulent confections concocted by some of the Berkshire's noted chefs and a children's story hour will be held at the Lenox Memorial Library. Other Lenox attractions such as Ventfort Hall, a reconstructed mansion of the Gilded Age will be open for day tours.
