Mission:

We, the faculty of Liberty School, believe it is our duty to provide appropriate and effective learning experiences which facilitate the intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and cultural development of our students.

We believe the educational experience is a cooperative effort of the home, school, and community.

We recognize every student as a unique individual endowed with varying needs, interests, and abilities. We strive to provide an environment which piques the curiosity and taps the unlimited creative potential of each student.

Additionally, we believe students can be helped to become constructive, participating members of our democratic society through the application of this mission.

We further believe:

Each student should be provided with a safe, clean, and orderly learning environment.

Learning experiences should be provided to develop basic skills in all content areas as defined in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

Effective communication should be established, maintained, and encouraged between home, school, and community.

A positive professional atmosphere of trust, understanding, and open communication within the school should be promoted at all times.

Students should have opportunities to develop and practice skills in higher-level thinking, decision making, and problem solving.

Teachers should be sensitive to individual learning styles and vary their teaching methods accordingly.

Students should be prepared to accept responsibility for their actions and the resulting consequences.

Each student should be encouraged to develop a positive attitude toward self and others.

High moral and ethical values should be encouraged.

Students should develop an understanding and appreciation of their cultural, political, economic, and social heritage.

There should be a continuous, well-organized program of pupil and staff evaluation which will provide information for planning and facilitating effective learning experiences.

Promotion of pupils should be based upon skill acquisition at a defined level of competency with consideration being given to individual pupil characteristics.

Staff development activities should be provided and utilized to address identified needs.

Sufficient resources and community support should be provided to maintain quality educational programs for students.

The school should provide a firm, fair, and consistent policy for student discipline.

These stated beliefs of Liberty School can only be realized through quality programs based on sound educational research. To implement this philosophy, the following continuing objectives have been formulated:

Each student should work toward being able to:

Acquire skills in communication, computation, science, and social studies

Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop healthy minds and bodies

Demonstrate an understanding of proper health and safety practices

Improve self-concept and learn to recognize his/her unlimited potential

Develop media and technological skills necessary to become effective users of information

Participate in learning experiences that will encourage him/her to become a responsible citizen

Explore and participate in tasks related to a variety of careers

Take advantage of opportunities to pursue individual interests
