Live Oak High School

2351 Pennington Road

Live Oak High School has a long history of tradition and accomplishments. Since the school was built in 1922, Live Oak graduates have gone on to lead strong and successful lives. Each year, LOHS recognizes past graduates as “Pride of the Pride” recipients. In May of the 2005-06 school year, we recognized Mr. Art Cheney, class of 1972, and Mr. Edward D. Kilby, class of 1949, for outstanding achievement after graduating from LOHS. Many other graduates have continued to stay in the Live Oak area to live and raise their families and have always given excellent support to our school and our students.

Currently our enrollment is approximately 550 students. Academically, LOHS has met our API and AYP targets set by the State of California and the Federal Government for the past three years. We are a level 5 out of 10 with the Statewide rankings and an excellent 8 out of 10 with similar schools ranking. The 2006-07 rankings have not yet been posted. On March 29, 2006, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell named 310 California schools, out of a possible 5,900, as the 2005-06 Title I Academic Achievement Award winners. LOHS was one of only 17 high schools in the state that received this award! Also, in 2001-02, 7 out of our 105 senior students met the A-G college prep requirements. Last year, 2005-06, our senior class of 105 students had over 50 students accepted by 4-year colleges and universities. This is double, almost triple, the state average. Our AVID program, along with an outstanding high school staff, has helped to meet these goals and improve our students.

Athletically, the sports teams continue to have a long tradition of having strong, competitive, and winning programs. LOHS also offers Performing Band and Choir, Drama, Spanish Honor Society, ASB, Friday Night Live, Environmental Club, California Scholastic Federation (CSF), Key Club, and the Future Farmers of America (FFA).
