Mission:
We are dedicated to the historic preservation, promotion, design and economic restructuring of Clinton’s original business and retail center, and to the rebirth of the area as a hub of community activity and pride.
History:
The Clinton Association for Revitalization and Excellence (CARE) began in the last months of 1998 as the vision of a few local downtown business people and city officials. Throughout the year of 1999 the momentum of CARE continued to grow as the grassroots organization explored different opportunities provided by the State of Arkansas.
These charter members eventually moved towards Main Street Arkansas, and began working on the fundraising and organizational requirements of this program. In 2000, the group hired its first director, who was charged with the task of getting Clinton into this statewide network of cities. This included establishing the organization as a non-profit corporation and obtaining IRS 501 (c) 3 status, organizing the office, and setting up the organizational structure of the program.
In December of 2000, Clinton was officially announced as a Main Street Arkansas community by Gov. Mike Huckabee. Since then the program has flourished, bringing park improvements, festivals, courthouse restoration, economic incentive packages and more to the downtown management area of the Main Street Clinton program.
In June, 2006, the downtown commercial core area was officially designated as a Historic District on the National Register. This culminated several years of work by Main Street Clinton.
