Since 1910,
when James McArdle and his wife, Mary, opened a seed store in a storefront on
Greenwich Avenue, four generations of McArdle's have been keeping the green in
Greenwich for almost one hundred years.
McArdle's
Florist and GardenCenter, located on one acre
at 48 Arch Street, is the oldest family
business in Greenwich. The company is owned
by Jim, Jr., the son of former owner, James, Sr., and grandson of the founder.
His son, James III, is the general manager. The family takes pride in the long
line of McArdles that brings fresh perspective to the business as it continues
to evolve with each generation. Originally, little more than a seed company, it
is now a full-service garden center featuring a complete nursery of annuals,
perennials, shrubs and trees, two greenhouses of tropical and flowering plants,
statuary, tools for gardening and a flower shop specializing in arrangements
from the traditional to the exotic created with flowers from all over the
world.
