The Michigan City Police Department faces many challenges. The department is tasked with providing quality services to the community. Crime rates in 2005 increased by 3.9% and violent crimes accounted for most of the rise in crime. What is alarming is this is not a local anomaly, a rise in violent crime is reported throughout the entire Country, with the mid-west leading the other areas of the Country. Michigan City PD has implemented strategys to address these issues. The Michigan City Police Department is also aggressively seeking Police Candidates in its hiring process. Due to legislation it has been attractive for senior Officers to look at retirement.
The Michigan City Police Department will be committed to a stronger uniformed officer presence on the streets. The department will be committed to public service and a strong liaison with the community. Crime reduction can be accomplished through proactive law enforcement effort utilizing the eyes and ears of its citizens. With a cooperative effort, we can make Michigan City a safe place to live, and a wonderful place to raise our families.
