Mission Statement:
Our mission is to be a Spirit-filled, growing, dynamic and loving church who creatively and effectively ministers Jesus Christ to the needs of the entire family by evangelizing, worshiping, discipling, nurturing, showing compassion, and providing fellowship.
Strategy for Mission:
The Middletown Church of the Nazarene accepts as our fundamental task the proclamation of the Good News of full salvation through Jesus Christ. We follow the doctrines, standards, and polity as set forth in the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene.
In the context of our specific ministry setting, we accept these strategies to fulfill our mission:
We will reach out to the lost and hurting of our communities, focusing on Middletown, but including our surrounding towns and cities. Every activity and program of the church is to be evaluated for its effectiveness in promoting outreach.
We will conduct our services in such a way that Christ is lifted up meaningfully through excellence in worship experience, music, and Bible-centered preaching. We seek to balance an orderly style of worship with freedom of expression through testimony and praise.
We will foster spiritual growth and discipleship through an emphasis on biblical teaching, especially through the organization of a quality Sunday School and Christian Education program.
We will build community through fellowship and care-giving ministries which promote a consciousness of being a part of the family of God.
We will focus our ministries on meeting the needs of families by developing effective programs for children, teens, and adults. Believing in the importance of the family for our society and its future, we seek to specialize our ministries to reach out with the healing grace of Christ to hurting and broken families. We want to provide an environment where all families can grow and be strengthened.
Since we believe in the possibilities of what God can do in and through church, we will choose to allow ministry and growth to happen, even though change and transition will continue to be a part of our experience. This quality of faith requires obedience and sacrifice from all who identify with our mission.
We will be involved in promoting the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world, especially by supporting and participating in the ministries of our denomination on the district, regional, international levels.
The Vision for Our Church:
Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (NIV)
To Go: To continue an emphasis on our Work and Witness ministry, sending at least one team from our church on a missions trip each year.
To Send: That persons from our church will respond to a call from God to serve in a ministry on to a culture different than our own, and that our church will participate in making their obedience to that call possible.
To Call: That young men and women from our church will respond to the call from God to a life-time of ministry in the church. A part of this vision is to have more young people from our church attend Olivet Nazarene University or other Nazarene institutions.
To Plant: That our church will play a significant role in planting a new church through supporting and resourcing the new ministry.
To Serve: That our church will make a priority of serving the needs of our community in any way that will glorify Christ and encourage others to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. We will continue our focus on ministering to families with an emphasis on children and youth.
To Build: That our church will be complete its plans for new building as soon as possible, realizing that this tool for ministry is needed to fulfill its mission in our community.
