Annual Congress: Organized in 1958, the MIC has held an “annual invention convention” every year. This convention, known as the Minnesota Inventors Congress, offers inventors an opportunity to display their working models/prototypes to the public, network with other inventors, receive consultation from many different resource people, and make contact with the businesses that use the Congress as a trade show source for new product ideas. The hard work of volunteers, their support and hospitality, keeps this event affordable and enjoyable to independent inventors.
• Year Round Inventors Resource Center: In 1986, the Minnesota Legislature recognized the valuable work being done by the MIC. They provided a legislative grant to MIC during each biennium until June 30, 2002. This funding allowed the MIC to create the Inventors Resource Center (IRC). Professionals in the Resource Center serve inventors by helping them find the information they need to progress in the invention development process.
• 1-800-INVENT1: A toll-free assistance line for inventors nationwide is available through the MIC Inventors Resource Center. We supply basic information to callers free of charge.
• Seminars: The IRC also organizes educational opportunities for inventors/entrepreneurs such as "Inventing Success" Seminars that will be held throughout the year in various locations in Minnesota.
• Membership: Memberships are our daily bread and butter and it is because of our members that we can continue to exist and serve inventors. • Watchdog: MIC realizes that fraudulent companies prey on the need of inventors to know if their idea can be patented and if there is a market to make progressing with the idea feasible. We work with the Attorney General’s office in Minnesota and other states toward legislation and enforcement of laws protecting inventors.
