Mirkwood School is a Recognized Independent School located in Marshfield, Vermont.

Mirkwood School was created and is staffed by Meadowdance Community. Meadowdance members started the school in May of 2000 to meet the educational needs of their own children. After moving to Washington County in September of 2002, the group decided to open the school to new students to help meet the need for an alternative school in the area. The school will eventually serve students of all ages, and for the fall of 2003 will be accepting new students aged 5 to 14. Students who start with us this fall will be able to complete their schooling with us through high school.

Mirkwood School provides a healthy and open environment that promotes sustainability, cooperation, and nonviolence, where students have an equal say in school decisions and are free to pursue their own interests.

We encourage parents and other interested local residents to come provide classes requested by students.
