History:

Since its inception on June 23, 1983, MCAC has collaborated with a multitude of individuals and organizations on the federal, state and local levels for the betterment of Montgomery County's businesses and citizens. These partnerships with governmental, educational, medical, and the business community, are an essential element in our county's and region's mutual success. 

At George's Cafeteria, in Coffeyville, KS, a group of citizens met as a result of a joint city and county meeting held in February 1983 at which time the County Commissioners and City Commissioners agreed they wanted to create an industrial development organization for the entire county. This committee agreed that the purpose of the new organization was to develop new industrial projects for Montgomery County. 

Since that time, the financial contributions entrusted to MCAC, combined with volunteer and staff efforts, have helped facilitate a number of significant investments that have broadened and diversified the scope of the area economy. Since 1994, MCAC has facilitated efforts that have resulted in more than $250 million in investment and created in excess of 5,600 new jobs with a 2008 payroll estimated at $78 million.

During the same time period, these efforts have contributed to over $1.2 billion in economic activity in Montgomery County with an economic net benefit to our taxing entities of just under $215 million. This equates to a return-on-investment of $21.35 generated for each taxpayer dollar invested in MCAC by Montgomery County.

The dollar figures do not tell the entire story. Much of MCAC's efforts are undertaken "behind the scenes". Although not visible or easily recognized, these efforts are crucial to the viability of our businesses and their employees.

MCAC is the economic development organization that works for the betterment of the county, bringing in new businesses, jobs, and opportunities for Montgomery County, the cities of Independence, Coffeyville, Caney, and Cherryvale, local businesses, organizations, and citizens of Montgomery County.
