The Mission of Nimitz Elementary School is to educate the whole child by focussing on literacy,ensuring a joy for lifelong learning,incorporating mutual respect for our rich diversity and encouraging active parent involvement.

Nimitz Elementary School, a recently renovated school located in the city of Sunnyvale, is a part of the Cupertino Union School District. Our school philosophy creates an environment where each student can maximize their unique abilities and strengths within a mission that educates the whole child by focusing on literacy. Apple Computer and DeAnza Community College have joined the staff as business and educational partners.

There are twenty-one primary languages other than English spoken by the students and families of Nimitz, and we are the site of one of five English Language Development Centers in the district. The staff of Nimitz School views the ethnic and cultural diversity of our students and families as one of our greatest assets. This rich gathering of different backgrounds allows our students to learn in an environment that parallels the diversity found in the global community we must interact with daily.
