OUR HISTORY

In its first few years the Orem Community Church (OC) met in the basement of the parsonage* and broke ground for the church in 1959.  Rev. Bill Robinson was the first pastor, and many of the original church members were employed at Geneva Steel and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad.  Youth group and Scouts flourished.  The tradition of the Live Nativity was born, and the church was full on Sunday mornings.

Through the 1990s and into this century with the closing of Geneva, OCC has seen a decline and change in the membership as have many Christian churches in Utah Valley.  Reminders of the earlier church days are evidenced by the closet full of unused choir robes, and the boxes of church records typed not printed out from a computer.

Despite demographics, the Orem Community Church today boasts a dynamic music director & organist and a hometown yet nationally known vocal soloist, Kalli Geogellis.  Weekly Sunday school classes or offered for children, and a monthly Bible Study & Potluck is attended by ¼ of the congregation!

Church friends and members come together for picnics, fundraisers and ballgames throughout the year, and kneel side by side with our LDS neighbors to work in our community garden.  The past mixes with the present as we continue the yearly tradition of the Love Nativity. Rejoice in banners adorning the altar made in the 60s and 70s, and start new traditions like the Passing of the Peace during worship a simple yet powerful act where everyone greets on another in the name of the Lord.
