About Us

On the afternoon of Sunday, November 15, 1885 a handful of settlers gathered in the parlor of the Ontario Hotel to discuss their need for a library. This informal meeting has been regarded as the founding of Ontario City Library.

Established as a City department in 1891, the Ontario City Library's Main and Colony High Branch contain over 184,000 books, 450 magazine subscriptions, 25 newspaper subscriptions, 14,000 videocassettes, 2,500 compact discs, government document depository, and pamphlet file. Computerized catalog and checkout systems provide access to the Library's many resources.

A five member Library Board of Trustees, appointed by the City Council, makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the operation of the Library system.
