The Pawling United Methodist Church has been an agent of Christ’s love, compassion and caring for nearly 200 years. Our history is rich and our future is filled with exciting promise. Our congregation is active within the community. We have a thrift store open on three days of the week; we host a free community-wide Thanksgiving dinner on the Sunday before Thanksgiving; many classes are held within our church such as French and first aid training. World mission is another aspect of living our faith. We have gone to and supported a project in Bolivia and we are looking forward to creating a “volunteers in mission” team for next summer.
In addition, music is an important part of our worshipping experience. We are blessed with a talented music director, Toni LaPietra and one of the finest organists and hand bell choir directors, Richard Sills. Besides an adult choir there is a youth and children’s chorus. Frequently you will hear trumpets, horns, violins or violas as part of our morning worship program.
Spiritual growth and development is of high importance with us offering Disciple Bible Study, short-term book studies and Sunday school for toddlers through high school. Our youth group is also involved in mission such as participating in the Midnight Run to New York City, bringing food and clothing to those who are currently homeless.
We are a fun-loving, spirit-filled congregation that enjoys many diverse gatherings throughout the year. This New Year’s Eve we had a fabulous night with games, movies, cards, worship and ringing in the New Year. What a special way to say that God and church are important in our lives. There is also the annual lobster feast in May, the Ham Dinner on Election Day, spaghetti dinners, a Cabaret night, and numerous other times when we share a meal and join in Christian fellowship.
