About:
Piggott's Farm Market & Bakery is located in the beautiful agricultural countryside of Benton Harbor, MI. The market sits on the edge of L.H. Piggott & Girls which was began by Laurel and Francis Piggott in 1949. Laurel and Francis had six daughters who worked on the farm as children. In the early years they grew apricots, strawberries, and peaches. As time went on they began to grow more vegetables. The farm is now owned and operated by Laurel and Francis daughter Laurie and her husband George McManus III. Today, there are many crops grown on the farm including, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, watermelons, cantaloupes, peppers, gladiolus, hard squash, pumpkins, onions, and much more.
In 1996, seeing a need for an outlet for excess produce, George and Laurie set up a trailer along Napier Avenue to sell tomatoes and had their four children manage the trailer. This endeavor was very successful and in 2003 they built the market that stands today. Their son, George IV, managed the market while in high school and continued to do so during the summers while attending Michigan State University. After graduating in 2009, George IV returned to manage the market full-time and went on to purchase the market from his parents in 2010.
George IV married his wife Allissa in July of the same year. Allissa came on board at the market in 2011 after leaving a corporate job. Today, George IV and Allissa work side by side to run the market. Under their care the market continues to grow. In 2012, they installed a bakery where their bakers create delicious pies, cookies, and doughnuts.
We like to think Grandpa and Grandma Piggott would be very proud of what has become of the 40 acre farm they started over 60 years ago. We invite you to come visit Piggott's Farm Market & Bakery and make trips to our family farm a new tradition for your family.
