The Quincy Smelter Association hosts monthly tours from June through October of the only intact early 20th century copper smelter. We are located on the Portage Canal in the Houghton-Hancock MI area. Visitors are able to see the machinery used to make copper from the steam boilers to the reverberatory furnaces and the small elevated rail system used to carry materials.
The Association has permission from the owner, Franklin Township, to have tours. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of the copper industry in the Keweenaw. We invite to visit our beautiful mountains and lakes and take in the many historic sites opwn ro rhw public.
